5 Songs That Celebrate Photography

KodachromeThere are a lot of songs that talk about photography or photographs; these are 5 of my favorites.

Kodachrome – Paul Simon
I’ve actually shot rolls of Kodachrome with a Nikon camera, just like Paul Simon.  Sadly like many other films, Kodachrome is gone, and even if you still have a roll laying around, there’s nowhere in the world that it can be developed.

Photograph – Def Leppard
This is a great song, probably the best of the half-dozen or so songs called Photograph.  I’m not sure, but I think this song is about a guy that’s obsessed with a woman & jerking it to the photo he has of her just isn’t cutting it anymore.

Hey Ya – Outcast
The song isn’t about photography, but the catchy line “shake it like a Polaroid picture” was so popular, Polaroid stated on their website that you should not shake your Polaroid pictures.  “Shaking or waving can actually damage the image”, the company wrote.

Freeze Frame – J. Geils Band
This song has some great lines about photography in it.  It’s true, ask anyone who has done work in a darkroom, “test-strip proof-sheet love is hard to find.”

Girls On Film – Duran Duran
Any song that opens with the rapid firing of a camera shutter is okay in my book.  I’ve always been a fan of this song, and when you add the very hot video, you have yourself some photo magic.

The photo above of the side view mirror wasn’t shot on Kodachrome, but it was my very first photograph.
